# PowerSchool Connected Intelligence

## Powering Data Modernization for K–12

PowerSchool Connected Intelligence modernizes your data infrastructure by centralizing siloed information, simplifying access, and transforming strategic data use to inform critical decisions.

## No More Stitching Data Together. Start Seeing the Full Picture.

Districts operate across dozens of disconnected systems—from SIS and assessments to HR, finance, special programs, historical archives, and more. Data teams spend countless hours extracting, validating, and stitching data together just to answer basic questions. PowerSchool Connected Intelligence changes that, giving you a fully managed, end-to-end data platform that powers the entire data life cycle, including data ingestion, storage, security, processing, monitoring, and access.

## Data as a Service

PowerSchool Connected Intelligence gives you a fully managed, end-to-end data platform that powers the entire data life cycle, including data ingestion, storage, security, processing, monitoring, and access.

- AI
- Data Exchanges

## Leverage Hands-On Data Access

With siloed data, you often need multiple tools to extract and use information. Connected Intelligence brings everything together with a common set of reporting tools—making it easier to access data, uncover insights, and drive informed decisions.

## Deliver Real-Time Analytics

Build real-time dashboards using your favorite BI tool and continuously monitor district performance to deliver faster insights without waiting for manual extracts or overnight updates.

## Archive Historical Data

Store historical data from source systems such as your SIS, LMS, and ERP system to meet state/federal requirements and/or conduct longitudinal analysis.

## Ensure Security and Compliance

As a managed cloud data platform, Connected Intelligence enforces stronger data security, governance, and compliance controls (e.g., FERPA-aligned privacy), reducing risk and administrative overhead.

## Simplify Ad Hoc Reporting

Data analysts spend excessive time on ad hoc reporting and data preparation. PowerSchool Connected Intelligence makes it easy to join any data set and run ad hoc reporting on the fly.

## Power AI and Machine Learning

Centralized data is the launchpad for an AI-ready future. With Connected Intelligence, bring AI to centralized data, which is more effective and secure than aggregating disparate datasets into an AI platform.

## Automate Data Exchanges

Automatically connect systems to synchronize and transfer data, aggregate information from multiple sources, and deliver reporting and insights—ensuring data stays consistent and up to date.

## What Educators Are Saying

> “Connected Intelligence allows us to get real-time data, refresh it quickly, and get it to stakeholders. We might have hit the dartboard before, but now we’re hitting the bull’s-eye.”

### Your Questions Answered

#### What is a Data as a Service (DaaS) Platform for K-12?

DaaS is a secure, turnkey, cloud-based model that centrally consolidates, manages, governs, and delivers data from multiple disparate systems so organizations can access trusted, real-time, and historical data on demand—without having to build or maintain their own data infrastructure.

#### What data can be centralized?

Data from PowerSchool and non-PowerSchool systems, including historical data, files, and third-party sources. Structured, semi-structured, and nonstructured data can be fully leveraged.

#### How is DaaS different from traditional data approaches?

Traditional approaches require organizations to
- build and maintain their own data warehouses;
- manage infrastructure, pipelines, and security internally;
- hire scarce and expensive specialized talent; and
- accept high long-term operational and maintenance costs.

Connected Intelligence replaces these responsibilities with an off-the-shelf, managed service, reducing infrastructure costs, operational burden, and staffing risk while improving reliability and security.

#### Why do school districts need a data lake?

School districts typically store data across many disconnected systems (SIS, LMS, assessment tools, HR systems, etc.).

A data lake allows districts to
- centralize historical and real-time data,
- break down data silos,
- enable cross-system analytics, and
- support district-wide reporting and AI initiatives.

Connected Intelligence brings all these sources together into one trusted data environment.

#### How is Connected Intelligence different from a traditional data warehouse?

Traditional education data warehouses often require custom ETL pipelines, dedicated infrastructure, and ongoing maintenance.

Connected Intelligence manages the backend for your district, allowing your data teams to focus on providing actionable analysis instead of troubleshooting server issues. This significantly reduces the technical overhead for districts.

#### Who owns the data in the Connected Intelligence platform?

The school district retains full ownership and control of its data. PowerSchool provides the secure platform and infrastructure but does not claim ownership of district data.

#### What systems can be integrated into the Connected Intelligence data lake?

Connected Intelligence can integrate data from all sources, including PowerSchool and non-PowerSchool sources. Additionally, the platform can store and process structured and semi-structured data. The flexibility to store any type of data from any source allows districts to retire legacy databases/warehouses and store historical data.

#### How is data loaded into the platform?

At implementation, our team will work with you to determine the fastest, most secure data-loading option. Data ingestion typically occurs through the following:
- Prebuilt Connectors for PS Sources
- ODBC/JDBC
- Secure APIs
- SFTP

#### Can districts run SQL queries directly on the data?

Yes. Data teams can access the platform using
- SQL,
- Python, and
- BI tools.

This enables analysts to run ad hoc queries across all district data.

#### How is student data protected?

Connected Intelligence offers several built-in data security features including
- role-based access control,
- encryption at rest and in transit,
- secure cloud infrastructure, and
- data governance policies.

The platform also receives continuous updates via Snowflake, ensuring your data is always protected by the latest technology.

#### How does the platform support FERPA compliance?

The platform supports FERPA compliance through strict access controls, encryption, and auditing capabilities. Districts can track who accesses data and ensure that sensitive student information is only shared with authorized personnel. These controls help districts maintain strong governance over student data.

#### Can we audit who accessed the data?

Yes. Connected Intelligence provides query history, access logs, and user activity monitoring to track how data is being used.

#### Can data be shared securely with external partners?

Yes. Connected Intelligence provides secure data-sharing capabilities that enable districts to collaborate with external partners without copying or transferring sensitive datasets. This can support partnerships with state agencies, research institutions, or regional education organizations.

#### Who uses Connected Intelligence?

Technology leaders and data and research teams who need timely, trusted access to data.
